What Is Your Philosophy of Patient Care?

I am most fulfilled by connecting with my patients. Plastic surgery provides a unique opportunity to help individuals address areas they wish to improve, while also walking alongside them through their journey. I love seeing patients months after surgery with renewed confidence, knowing that the procedures and care we provided have made a meaningful difference. What excites me is the constant innovation in plastic surgery—new techniques, refined approaches, and progressive advancements that allow us to achieve even better results for our patients.

What Are Your Interests Outside of Medicine?

I was fortunate to have an incredibly influential mentor (Dr. Robert Walton) during my general surgery residency who truly solidified my path toward plastic surgery. He was a master—not just technically, but in patient care. I learned from him that excellence isn’t incremental; it requires dedication, curiosity, and vision. I traveled with him to conferences across the country and around the world, presenting research at conferences and seeing firsthand how comprehensive plastic surgery covers everything from head to toe. What drew me in was the impact we can have in restoring form and function for patients, but I also love the creativity inherent in plastic surgery—the ability to approach procedures in multiple ways and tailor techniques to each patient.

Why Did You Choose to Practice in This Area?

After finishing my plastic surgery training and hand fellowship in California, Mindee and I made the decision to return to Utah. It was less about career logistics and more about home. We met in high school here. I completed my undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Utah. Our parents and most of our siblings still live in the area. We wanted our children to grow up close to family, surrounded by the same community that shaped us. Utah feels like home in a deep way. We love the people, the values, and the opportunities to contribute. Coming back allowed us to raise our kids in the place where we built our foundation, while also giving me the chance to help build something meaningful in the local medical community. Returning wasn’t just practical. It was personal. Utah is where our story began, and it’s where we chose to continue writing it.

His path to becoming a plastic surgeon has been forged through rigorous training and education. Following the completion of his general surgery residency in Chicago, he pursued a plastic surgery fellowship at the top-ranked University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
