What is a Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure that corrects a deviated septum: the thin cartilage and bone wall separating the two nasal passages. When the septum is off-center or crooked, it can partially or completely block airflow through one side of the nose, leading to chronic congestion, frequent sinus infections, snoring, sleep disruption, and difficulty breathing. While medications can offer temporary relief, they can’t address the structural problem at the root of the issue.
During a septoplasty, the surgeon gently repositions and reshapes the septal cartilage to create a straighter, more centered nasal passage. This procedure is performed internally, meaning there are no visible external incisions. In some cases, your doctor may also address additional internal structures, such as enlarged turbinates, to maximize airflow and long-term relief. The goal isn’t to change the appearance of your nose, but rather to restore clear, comfortable breathing.
