What is Capsule Surgery?
Capsule surgery refers to procedures that treat the scar tissue capsule that forms around breast implants. The body naturally creates this capsule as part of the healing process, but over time, the tissue can become thickened, tightened, or distorted.
Depending on the situation, several surgical approaches may be used:
- Capsulectomy: Removal of part or all of the capsule surrounding the implant. This may be partial, total, or performed en bloc, depending on the case.
- Capsulotomy: A technique that releases or scores the capsule to relieve tightness or reposition the implant without fully removing the tissue.
- Capsule Revision: Reshaping or adjusting the capsule during procedures such as implant replacement or correction of implant displacement.
The right approach depends on factors such as capsular contracture severity, implant condition, and whether implants will be removed, replaced, or repositioned.
