Age, hormones, genetics, and environmental exposure give the complexion a tired, textured appearance. At The Plastics Clinic, we offer our patients nonsurgical laser skin resurfacing treatments to attain smoother, younger-looking skin without the need for extensive recovery. Dr. Jerry Chidester is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who works with patients throughout South Jordan, UT.

What is laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that utilizes pulsating beams of light to safely exfoliate and remove damaged tissue cells layer by layer to achieve radiating results. Patients can achieve smoother skin without topical ointments or intensive cosmetic surgery. At The Plastics Clinic, Dr. Chidester uses the Alma Hybrid, an innovative laser technology that is gently applied to the skin during a short, easy session.

What is laser skin resurfacing used to treat?

Laser skin resurfacing treatments can be used to treat numerous conditions, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Sun spots

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Acne scars

  • Textured skin

  • Redness or other discoloration

Candidates for laser skin resurfacing

Both men and women are ideal candidates for laser skin resurfacing treatments if they have:

  • Textured patchy, or uneven skin

  • Acne scars

  • Skin discoloration

  • Sun damage

  • Age spots

During the initial consultation, Dr. Chidester will examine your skin and review your medical history to determine if you can safely participate in laser skin resurfacing treatments. Patients with active acne or darker skin tones may not qualify or may be more suitable for alternative skin treatment options.

What the treatment process looks like

Patients can receive laser skin resurfacing treatments at The Plastics Clinic within the comforts of one of our private treatment rooms. Each treatment session takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. Non-ablative and CO2 ablative lasers are applied to the skin to gently remove damaged cells and to make room for new cell regeneration. Once your session is finished, you may return home and resume normal daily activities. Dr. Chidester sends each patient home with instructions to optimize their treatment results.

What will laser skin resurfacing feel like?

Each patient experiences laser skin resurfacing differently. The sensation during treatment is comparable to a mild sunburn or to a rubber band being snapped against the skin. In many cases, patients feel little to no discomfort during their session; however, patients may report feeling stinging or irritation during the first few days after their initial session.

Is there recovery time after laser skin resurfacing treatments?

Although laser skin resurfacing doesn’t require any down time, patients generally experience temporary swelling and redness which often resolves within a few days. Full results may take up to 2-3 weeks to notice, and some patients may need more than one treatment before achieving their personal skin goals.

How many laser skin resurfacing treatments will I need?

Each patient has a customized treatment plan based on their personal goals, their skin condition(s), and Dr. Chidester’s recommendations. Typically, patients can achieve beautiful outcomes within 1-2 treatment sessions.
