Why Did You Decide to Become a Doctor?

I became a doctor because medicine aligned with the person I was quietly becoming. Growing up between cultures, first on a hospital compound in Saudi Arabia and later navigating life in Utah, taught me the value of steadiness, observation, and moving between worlds without apology. In a place where difference often required explanation, medicine offered a path where competence and precision mattered most. Plastic surgery ultimately called to me as the perfect intersection of structure and creativity, art and science, restoration and human connection. It allows me to blend technical rigor with the deeper work of rebuilding confidence and dignity. I didn’t chase the title with grand ambition. The work chose me through years of alignment, learning that true outcomes follow identity and disciplined presence, not effort alone. Today, I practice with the same conviction: who we become shapes everything that follows.

How Do You Stay Current With Medical Advancements?

As a board-certified plastic surgeon (American Board of Plastic Surgery, 2019–2029), I stay current through disciplined habits that balance learning, teaching, and innovation. I fulfill Continuous Certification requirements and actively engage with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and The Aesthetic Society, regularly reviewing key journals such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery Journal. I attend major conferences to learn the latest procedures and techniques, while also speaking internationally and at national meetings, including multiple presentations at Plastic Surgery The Meeting on subfascial breast augmentation, P4HB support, and the role of social media and AI in aesthetic surgery. I have been among the first in Utah to adopt and perform techniques such as Preservé augmentation (one of the first in the USA), RibXcar, and early use of Motiva implants and GalaFLEX. Through The Plastics Academy, the educational and research arm of my practice, I collaborate with industry on clinical trials, host hands-on training courses for visiting surgeons from around the world, and contribute to developing and refining new approaches. This measured approach, learning from others while helping advance the field, aligns with the same discipline I write about: identity and stewardship first. What Do You Enjoy Most About Your Work?

What I love most about my job is helping people finally feel and look like themselves again. There’s nothing better than that moment when a patient looks in the mirror and lights up because they see the real them, whether it’s restored confidence after reconstruction or a natural boost that just feels right. I get to blend technical precision in the OR with creative artistry every single day, solving unique challenges and crafting results that match each person’s vision and anatomy. I also thrive on the human side: building real trust, listening closely to goals, and guiding patients through the whole journey with honesty and care. Plus, sharing techniques and training surgeons from around the world at Highpointe Surgery Center and The Plastics Academy keeps the energy high and the field moving forward. In the end, it’s the joy of using skill, focus, and heart to help someone walk out feeling more confident and aligned. That never gets old.

What Are Your Interests Outside of Medicine?

Outside the operating room, my life revolves around family, movement, and making memories. I’m an active dad who loves cheering on my kids in their sports. My oldest plays basketball, my daughter thrives in soccer, and my youngest enjoys golf and tumbling. Watching them grow, compete, and discover their passions is one of my greatest joys. I also stay active myself through swimming and playing basketball. These outlets help me stay balanced and energized. Mindee and I make time for travel whenever we can. We especially love taking family trips to Disneyland, where the magic and laughter create some of our favorite shared moments. These parts of life, family adventures, sports, and simple joys, keep me grounded and remind me what truly matters beyond medicine.

Why Did You Choose to Practice in This Area?

After finishing my plastic surgery training and hand fellowship in California, Mindee and I made the decision to return to Utah. It was less about career logistics and more about home. We met in high school here. I completed my undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of Utah. Our parents and most of our siblings still live in the area. We wanted our children to grow up close to family, surrounded by the same community that shaped us. Utah feels like home in a deep way. We love the people, the values, and the opportunities to contribute. Coming back allowed us to raise our kids in the place where we built our foundation, while also giving me the chance to help build something meaningful in the local medical community. Returning wasn’t just practical. It was personal. Utah is where our story began, and it’s where we chose to continue writing it.

Dr. Chiddy’s journey to becoming one of Utah’s most trusted plastic surgeons reflects his dedication to excellence and continuous learning. He graduated with honors from the University of Utah, earning his bachelor’s degree in biology. Following two years of missionary service, Dr. Chidester returned to complete his medical degree at the prestigious University of Utah School of Medicine.

His advanced training continued with a comprehensive six-year plastic and reconstructive surgical residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Southern California, where he honed his skills in the latest surgical techniques and developed his signature approach to patient care.
